To execute some of the jumps on Icy maps, it is important to be able to crouch while pressing forward + sprint. The following jumps will either benefit from or do require this technique; the starred jumps will be near impossible without using this technique:
The problem is that merely pressing crouch (without holding forward + sprint) while powersliding or skating on the ice will drain your stamina extremely quickly. Using sprint forward while crouching, on the other hand, will prevent your stamina from being depleted at such a rapid rate.
A good way to test your ability is as follows:
A problem for many people is that their keyboards will not register all 3 keys being pressed simultaneously (forward, sprint, and crouch). One of two things will happen in these problem cases: either the crouch will be ignored while forward and sprint are depressed, or pressing crouch will magically cause forward and/or sprint to be released.
The default Urban Terror key bindings are as follows:
| key | action |
|---|---|
| 'w' | forward |
| 'e' | sprint |
| space | jump |
| 'c' | crouch |
On problem keyboards, pressing the 'c' key will do nothing if both 'w' and 'e' are depressed at the same time, or pressing 'c' will cause 'w' and/or 'e' to be released even though you didn't actually release them. Unfortunately, the only apparent solution to this problem is to rebind one of the actions (forward, sprint, or crouch) to a different key. For example, some people bind one of the mouse buttons to sprint. Other people bind the shift key to crouch. You will have to find a solution that works for you. Note that pressing the left and right strafe keys simultaneously is equivalent to the sprint action, so you may be able to just press both left and right strafe keys instead of using the default 'e'.
The ability to press crouch while sprinting forward is important for regular Urban Terror gameplay; you should make sure you have this ability regardless of whether you continue to play jump maps.
